Nestled in a peaceful corner of Santa Barbara County, Happy Canyon’s lush hillside vineyards, abundant sunshine, and oak-studded grasslands make it one of the area’s most picturesque viticultural areas—as well as one of the most promising. Small vines and low grape yields are the outcome of soil that is high in mineral levels yet low in nutrients; a circumstance that results in wines with concentrated flavors and an excellent expression of terroir. This 23,941-acre wine growing region is recognized for its unique microclimate and ability to produce Bordeaux varietals, like this Syrah, with remarkable complexity and depth - unlike the sweet, fruit flavored wines you’d typically find in a warmer climate. The Wine
The Porter & Plot Syrah is a naturally made wine with ripe and polished flavor. Sitting deep purple in your glass, it’s aromatically expressive with black pepper spice and hints of citrus that meld into it’s flavors of dark fruit and orange zest that come together with a bit of herbaceous mint and a tart, cranberry finish. Grab a bottle for your next date night and plan for a cozy evening at home with simple roast chicken and a loved one.The Craft
Harvested at the end of September, the grapes for the Porter & Plot Syrah came from a 77-acre, small production vineyard and were cold soaked and fermented in their skins for 10 days before being drained and pressed. The Syrah was aged in 10% new American oak and 10% new French oak to add some depth and structure, while keeping the wine balanced.
